Balanced Justice is a coalition of concerned community and church groups that seeks to enhance the safety of all Queenslanders by promoting understanding of criminal justice policies that are effective, evidence-based and human rights compliant. In short, Balanced Justice is about smart action for a safer community.
In January 2015, Balanced Justice released Youth (in)Justice in Queensland, a brief overview of the current state and direction of youth justice in Queensland. Our concern is that the youth justice system is becoming increasingly ‘unbalanced’… ever more punitive, and ever less preventative, rehabilitative and effective.
Rather than punitive and ineffective policies, Balanced Justice calls for early intervention, prevention and rehabilitation, because:
